Second X1 Premier Division.
Ossett won the top of the table clash with Wakefield Thornes in an exciting, low scoring contest on Saturday. Ossett batted first and were desperately struggling for runs as Brad Green (5-29) ran amok. Only numbers 7 and 8, David Sadler (26) and Nohman Hussain (28) got amongst the runs as the innings closed on 118 all out. It looked a great opportunity for Thornes to complete a victory that would close the gap at the top with just two games to go. However, the Ossett attack had other ideas, as Chris Smith (3-35), Dale Winterbottom (3-26) and Nohman Hussain (3-34) wreaked havoc. There was some spirited resistance from Thornes number 10, Josh Hudson Evans with 40, but his eventual dismissal concluded the innings at 105 and gave Ossett a 13 run win.
Batley moved into second place after an 8 wicket win over Wrenthorpe. Richard Smith made 50* out of Wrenthorpe's 104-10, with Saqib Talib taking 5-17 for Batley. After losing a couple of early wickets, an 81 run third wicket partnership from Imran Patel (59*) and Ebrahim Laher (29*) saw Batley home.
James Gahan (5-41) and Joshua Neil (52*) featured for Methley in their 7 wicket win over Mirfield Parish Cavaliers, whilst Carlton had an emphatic 106 run victory over Wakefield St Michaels thanks to Mark Schofield (83) and Jordan Hartley (6-19). Meanwhile Birstall defeated 9 man Buttershaw St Pauls by 7 wickets, with Paul Brook taking 4-35 and George Stones scoring 34*. Altofts conceded their match with East Ardsley.
Ossett now have a 6 point lead over Batley and these two meet this week at Mount Pleasant. The stakes couldn't be higher as six points will guarantee Ossett the title. A win for Batley though will take the race to the final game, and that may still include Wakefield Thornes if they beat Mirfield Parish Cavaliers this week.
