Pre-season message from the League President I hope everybody has wintered well, April’s here and suddenly the new
season is almost upon us. This will be the last competition before the much
heralded merger with the Leeds and West Riding League. With this in mind, I’m sure all clubs will be looking to do really well, in order to be as
high up their respective leagues as possible, so as to be playing at
the highest level achievable in 2009 in the new set up.
Merger talks caused many a rift at League Management level, as I’m sure it did also within many clubs, I hope any harsh words can now be forgotten, it’s a “done deal” so lets get on with it! I fear to mention the weather, 2007 was the wettest I can remember, and I first played league cricket in 1962, let us hope and pray for a half decent summer so we can all enjoy our cricket. This season we have a new set of disciplinary penalties in place, this is long overdue, the rules and penalties are clearly set out so there can be no complaints if behavior problems occur on the field of play which lead to fines, run penalties, and even the loss of league points. Cricket is a very serious game and I know teams will always play hard, but let’s keep it fair, after all it is a gentleman’s game. Good luck to everyone, to those promoted I hope you can get established at the higher level, to those demoted I hope you can achieve success after what must have been a disappointing 2007. I look forward during the summer months, to seeing the many friends I have made over the years supporting Central Yorkshire League cricket, last year I drank a lot of warm tea and coffee at the grounds I visited, this year I hope it will be a cool beer I will be in need of!!
