Andy HaleyEnd of season report
League Secretary, Andy Haley, presented his end of season report at the AGM held at Ossett Cricket Club on 7 December
After a season that was badly affected by the weather it was nice to see most of the titles won on the last day of the season, a view probably not shared by the President who had to drive like Nigel Mansell in order to present the trophies on the day. Again, could I give my congratulations to all the individuals and clubs who have had a successful season and hope that the League continues to have exciting finales in the future.

There is one area which disappoints me, and that is that the Senior League Competition will no longer be competed for (although it is hoped that it may be revived for 2008), it seems that the majority of players picked to represent the League seem it no longer an honour to do so, a number of reasons are given, but the main reason appears to be financial – i.e. no pay no play. Those that have represented our League for the honour can I give my thanks to them for doing so.

Another area that gives concern is that some Clubs are having great difficulty in raising two teams on Sundays. While players like Sundays off, the Clubs understandably do not as bar revenues are affected, I do not know the way forward on this, but perhaps and only perhaps and without wanting to upset the League sponsors and the people who have donated trophies, maybe the 2nd XI Cup Competition should be scrapped, would it have a knock on effect with the Jack Hampshire Cup I do not know? This is my own view and should Clubs or individuals have any views please let me know but in the years to come this situation in my opinion will only worsen.

Finally, as always could I give my thanks to everybody connected with the League for all the work that goes in, The people who do the work for the Clubs or indeed the League Management Committee are the people who get the least credit but I suspect get the most satisfaction for their efforts. I hope everybody has an enjoyable festive period and all winter well.
