week 4 washout
Rain ruins weekend fixtures
Week 4 saw almost a complete washout as persistant rain prevented play in the majority of matches. Play was however started at Methley, Mirfield PC, Wakefield SM & Wrenthorpe as the premiership sides attempted to snatch points against their fellow challengers.

Wakefield City smashed 230-4 at Methley, M B. Marwat 90, B Mohammed 47no top scoring. At Mirfield, Alex Scholefield 68 and overseas player Wanrapura 21 helped the homeside reach 136-4 before play was abandoned.

Aussie giant Grant Lambert hit 71 in Wrenthorpe’s 115-3 against Birstall and Townville’s Chris Cotton claimed 2-19 as they restricted Wakefield SM to 37-2. None of the Division 1 matches started.

Remarkably, there was one CYCL match that did finish! In Division Three, Moorlands A hosted Westwood Park who batting first posted 157-9. In a closely fought match, the homeside fell short on 148-7 finishing at 7.50pm . Unfortunately it was 2 points all as it was rain affected in the second innings.

For a number of sides, Sunday saw the completion of the Heavy Woollen and Crowther cup second round ties. A number were again weather affected with five of the senior ties been decided on the cricketing version of the penalty shoot out, a ‘bowl out’. Both New Farnley and Townville were knocked out on this basis.  Six CYCL teams enter the hat for the third round 1st XI draw and four teams progressed in the 2nd XI Crowther Cup. All the scores can be found on the results area of the cyclweb site.
