CYCL 2006 gets underwayThe weather was kind for the opening day of the 2006 season as this years title favourites all started with wins in damp but warm conditions.
Defending champions Townville entertained Scholes in what turned out to be a very one sided affair. Batting first, Townville amassed a commanding 268-3, Glen Yates leading the charge with an unbeaten 113 supported by Steve Bourne, also unbeaten on 60. In reply, Scholes were bowled out for just 53, Nick Bresnan and Chris Cotton both picking up 4 cheap wickets. Rivals Wrenthorpe without Australian Grant Lambert who arrives next week also picked up maximum points. David Paynter finished with 4-16 as Ossett were bowled out for 125. Iqbal Khan top scored with 58. In reply, Wrenthorpe passed the target with 7 wickets to spare. In the highest scoring tie of the day, Methley came out tops as they hit 300 for 8 at Mirfield Parish Cavaliers. Richard Foster starred with 165 not out, Alex Gilston also scoring 51. But Parish fell short by 35 runs with the last pair at the wicket, Stones scoring 101. Vic Craven claimed 4-52 and the visitors were unable to claim maximum points.
In Division one, Carlton's aim to bounce back up to the Premiership started well with a convincing 7 wicket win against Liversedge. Ricky Rotch 4-26 and Neil Waite 5-19 bowled the visitors out for 87 before Mark Schofield and Andy Baker saw the home side home. It wasn't as convincing for Stanley as they scraped through by one wicket against Roundhay. Batting first Roundhay reached 116 all out, Aziz top scoring with 38. Badat's 28 proved vital in the home sides slim victory. |
