Season starts without Overseas Players With the start of the 2006 CYCL season less than 24 hours away (weather permitting), many Premiership sides will be going into the campaign without an overseas professional.
So far only 5 overseas players have been cleared to play in the opening fixture. With the increasingly difficult task of obtaining work permits however, it is understandable why clubs are leaving it until the last minute to formally register their OSP’s. Premiership clubs may only register one player per season. If that player is then refused a permit and has already been registered, they are unable to sign another.
While it is understood that most clubs have players in the pipeline, last years forth placed team, Methley have taken the unusual decision not to sign an overseas player this season.
